I won the lotto!

Polar Bear
A few years ago, my mom told me there was a kitten in a big bush down the street that was meowing. It had been doing that for some time and wouldn't come out. I walked down there, spent a few hours trying to coax him out. Finally, the owner of the house gave me some fish and water to offer the cat. I guess between that and the fact that I had spent time with the cat, he came out. I put him in a cage and brought him home. We have no idea who his mother was or where she was- just that this guy was in there alone, and crying out. A few weeks later, my mom said she thought she saw was another cat in that same area- but didn't stay too long.

We ended up keeping the kitten we found. I decided to name him Lotto. Since it was summer, I spent a lot of time with him. I was actually the only one he really liked when he first came home, since I had helped him out of the bush, spent most of my time with him (including spending the first few nights sleeping on the couch with him). At the end of that summer, though, I moved into the dorms and lost my bond with him. Now he doesn't really like me. He runs away whenever I walk around the house. I can still pet him, and once in a while, he'll come up to me- rub against my leg, but it's usually only briefly. He mostly bonds with my mom, since she's the one who feeds him every morning (not to mention the fact that I stay in my room most of the day).

New kilt - go Spartans!

  • Feb. 18th, 2007 at 8:50 AM
utilikilt
A week or two ago, I bought a new Utilikilt. I decided I would take a risk and by the Spartan model. This is a... a hem... specialty model, designed to be ultralight weight and breathable- particularly good for working out. From what people described it, it was basically the most comfortable thing they wore. I like comfort. Sure, it's not... the best looking thing- but it's comfortable!

I ended up with a red Spartan. I had the choices of red or purple when I ordered. If I wanted one of the more "bearable" colors (black, green, or blue), I would have had to order a medium. Because the waist on the Spartan is elastic, I figure it was better to order smaller than larger- as it would stretch. Oh- the good news about the red Spartan is that they happen to be my university's colors (or close enough)- crimson and white.

(Oh- and yes, it is very comfortable. I even like the big pocket they give. That surprised me. I was thinking I would have two side pockets, much like pants do... but instead, they make one big pocket that connects. It took a little adjustment, but I like it. It does make it a bit more comfortable to wear than the tan Utilikilt I have with the side pockets)

Funny thing- my neighbor came over to see if I had an envelope (yeah, odd thing on a Friday night). After I said I didn't have one, he suddenly made an outstanding observation: "You're wearing a kilt." I explained to him about Utilikilts. He said he might have to go and buy one.

Saturday: Found 8 caches in the morning, did nothing the rest of the day.
Sunday: Found 6 caches in the morning, did nothing the rest of the day.
Monday: Found 1 cache in the morning- I was the first to find it, did nothing the rest of the day.
Tuesday: Found 1 cache in the morning- I was the first to find it, did nothing the rest of the day.

Also, I got a keen geocaching hat on Tuesday as a first-to-find prize.

Geocaching doesn't make me crazy...

I'm already crazy. Geocaching just reinforces that. Wait... did I say I was crazy? I meant not crazy. I'm sane. The following pictures only prove it.

I decided to not have a day of disappointing caches, but instead, stretch it out into a week, since I have other things to do. I went out today to find one cache I could find previously... and success! I even have pictures of that uploaded. These pictures are of the Piglet travel bug I had and put in a cache I found this morning. I also am including another travel bug I found earlier this month.

I'm not sure if I'm going to post all of my pics in LiveJournal, since I have a lot of them (especially from the really hard-to-get-to cache that I had to climb up steep hills (I should also emphasize climb). Sadly, I never actually found that cache because I had to get to school. It was still a very amazing place I went to. If I don't post them in LiveJournal today, I'm going to try to get my website up soon (it'll probably be easier to organize them that way, too... but if you really want to see a few of these pictures, send me a message and I'll see what I can do).

Anyway... Piglet! )

Edit: What is a travel bug? I forgot to explain that. A cache is a container that says at a specific coordinate. A travel bug is designed to go from cache to cache. If a geocacher find a travel bug, ey can take it with them and then drop it off at their next cache. Some travel bugs have certain goals- such as going to Chicago or Denmark. Others just are there to travel around just so the owner of the travel bug (the person who started it) can see the adventures it goes on. Sometimes people will take pictures of the travel bug to show that adventure- even doing something as significant as the traveling gnome in Amelie, but most of the time, they just go from cache to cache.

Cut my own hair? Am I crazy?

  • Jan. 15th, 2006 at 5:04 PM
May be insane
Well, quite possibly... but that's not the point of this post. I thought it'd be a good idea to cut my own hair, since usually I want something simple- don't care much about styling (nor do I really know anything about different hair styles). I bought myself a set of hair clippers from Target a week or two ago for $20. It seems like a good set.

Today, I went for it. Since I'm not really familiar with cutting hair, I decided to use the longest clipper size as practice. Then I'd go for shorter. Well, I decided to stop after that first trial.

The results... )

I can't believe I forgot to post this. Here is a picture of me in my second kilt and my Civilization 3 shirt (what? Civ 3? Yeah--- when it came out, I was very excited and made a shirt. I was too lazy/forgot for Civ 4).

Birthday

Polar Bear
Today was my 21st birthday. It started off like a day of errands- I went to the bank, the optometrist, K-Mart. I almost went to see The Fantastic Four, after doing the errands, I was getting hungry and didn't want to sit through a movie for two hours without lunch. Luckily, my mom gave me money for lunch to try out a new hamburger place nearby.

Nothing exciting. I spent the mid-afternoon watching episodes of Wonderfalls and drinking a tequila sunrise. My first alcoholic beverage (while legal in the US) while watching Wonderfalls.

For dinner, my mom made lasagna. For dessert, lemon cake with strawberry frosting and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Then I got to open my presents (goodie!):

  • Kilt (I was wearing this... I actually got it in late May/early June as an early gift)
  • Stargate (the movie)
  • Farscape: The Starburst Edition (vol. 1)
  • Battlestar Galactica (1978 film)

    Edit: I forgot:
  • Fanny-pack (aka really cheap sporran) to hold my wallet and keys when I'm wearing a kilt

    Geocaching

I went geocaching for the first time yesterday. For those unfamiliar, it's where there's something hidden (in a box, for example) at a particular coordinate. The point then is to find these objects (the cache). The cache I found today (with [info]jacyl) is a more difficult cache to find. Many caches are hidden in a city (parks, for example), although there are a lot hidden in, essentially, the middle of no where. Today's cache was definately a no where located one. It was a hike to get to (probably 2 miles from the road, I'd guess)... over hills and through the desert. It was fun though.

    More cache! (with pictures) )
